In recent years social studies education in Middle Schools in New York has received much attention. Professional Development has been limited and yet is more critical than ever. Middle School educators are face with the responsibility of not only teaching our young people the social studies curriculum but providing them with the best possible preparation to succeed in the Grade 8 Statewide Social Studies examination. It is also essential to prepare middle school students for the rigorous curricula in the High Schools.

Over the past several years through partnerships with various institutions our schools have been participating in American history professional development programs funded federally through the Teaching American History Grants.
